Yi sukini eGiyani – GCR FM vs. Greater Giyani Municipality

GCR is in a lot of trouble, or under attack, depending on how you look at it. The Giyani based radio station has accused the municipality of political interference. While the municipality and a number of community members accuse GCR of corruption and mismanagement of funds.

It is reported that GCR staff members were taken off air and locked out of the premises by the municipality due to the station being in rental areas of R390, 160. GCR has not denied owing the municipality. The municipality is clear on wanting a new board and management.

“There have been many attempts to hijack the station by the committee led by Mr. Eric Nkovani (Penny Penny) and this was played out in the meetings which the committee had asked us to attend. In all the meetings GCR FM management and the board were given instructions to vacate the premises and leave the station. We have refused these attempts and also ICASA and department of communications is aware of all this illegal acts.” – Prenomen Chavani, GCR Stations Manager

The issues between GCR and Greater Giyani Municipality are very personal and dirty in nature; however, both sides are not providing evidence to support any of their allegations. The community continues to speculate and comment on the situation;

This is a time for a leader to take decisive action, media statements are inappropriate hi Xitsonga because they are impersonal. Both GCR and GGM used their media statements to take shots at each other and failed to engage the community.
